PLEASE READ- AND PASS ALONG

This was written by a Yahoo member- Viperrogue.

I'm sorry I've been a little distant lately, but I had an unfortunate event happen and I needed some time to think. I would like you all to pass this message along to whom ever you think will listen. On Saturday December 2, 2005 at 2 PM I watched my friend of 25 years bury her only son. Her only child. He was victim of a violent shooting. He was shot 10 times by two men over a girl. A girl who in my own opinion didn't care about either of them. This young man was 19 years old. He was about to make his mark on the world, and now that's not going to happen. The night I received the news I laid in bed thinking about the senseless violence in the world, and how it affects not just the family, but also all of us. Every time another child dies history is changed forever. That young brother that was murdered over a pair of tennis shoes could have invented a fuel source that do away with gasoline. That young sister killed in a drive by shooting for being in the wrong place at the wrong time could have developed a cure for cancer. These are things we don't know for sure, and will never find out at the rate we are going. Every random act of violence sets us back 100 years. Every senseless killing shortens the life span of every one around us. Right now our culture is in serious jeopardy. Our future is dying before it has a chance to begin. As we continue to lose lives we continue to lose opportunities. This young man who I loved and respected will never know the joy of seeing his own child born, and teaching them what he's learned in the world. His mother who once found direction in her son must now redirect her anger because her reason for being is no longer there. I guess what I'm saying is life has more than a day-to-day purpose. Every part of our lives no matter how small effects the lives of everyone we make eye contact with every second of every day. That person you smiled at not more than 5 seconds ago could have just changed their mind about doing something they would regret the rest of their lives from that simple smile. How about the person who looked over your shoulder to glance at what you were reading on your way to work this morning. You may have just triggered the solution to a problem they have working on months. Our children need to know these things. Life is a gift from god, and we are all here with a purpose greater than ourselves, and that purpose may not affect us, but could affect others. Also I want say I admire and respect each and every one you and what you bring into my life. I may not say it enough, but I think it everyday.
